Blithe Quilt

I was really thrilled about getting the chance to work with Katarina Roccella's Blithe fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics.  I especially wanted to work with the Canvas from AGF, and like all AGF fabrics it is amazing "Feel the Difference" is as always the truth.  In fact it is so great, that when it came in the mail, my husband asked if I was making something for him, he loves the feel of it, and if you think this is a common comment from him, it's not, he doesn't like me sewing, so for him to approve of just fabric was truly amazing.
Another thing I love about Art Gallery Fabrics is that they always do a great job of telling you what blenders/solids go great with a fabric collection.  I picked up a few of the solids suggested Sweet Macademia, Quartz Pink (I love this color so much!!) and Mystic Grey, I had Ash and Moonstone on hand and think they look good with the fabric collection as well.

I also added a little bit of Katarina's first collection "Indelible"

For the binding I couldn't help but add another Art Gallery Fabric designer's fabric to the mix for the binding, using a flange binding technique with Quartz Pink as the solid, which looks beautiful against the canvas.

I was so happy to have Fat Quarter Shop's Orange Peel Templates, it helped a lot in the making of the feathers.

I ended up hand quilting it since I was having difficulties with my sewing machine, I like the way it turned out.
But I have a few more "white feathers" to hand quilt down and so I have not completed the quilt and I apologize about this.
With all of the hand quilting I needed to take breaks for my finger sakes, so I also created the Airport Sling from the book "On the Go Bags"
I will be donating this for the Auction #sendkarritokorea that is going on on IG, this weekend.

I will complete the quilt as soon as possible, Thank you for the chance to create using your fabrics Katarina!

Tammy 4 All Seasons Blog Hop

This was a very interesting blog hop organized by Mary and invented by Madame Samm with the patterns created by Brooke Nolan and Cori Blunt. I want to let you know this is my first time trying out cross stitch or turn-edged applique and I failed miserably at both.
I have decided that cross stitch just isn't for me, not only is someone telling me the design, but they have already picked out the colors....nope, not going to have it.  That's the funnest part of creating for me, is picking out the colors.  So here is my take on Brookes design and yes it is lovely in the original version as well.
 I took out the starfish, cause a starfish on the beach means it's dead.  I have never worn a scarf to the beach or just one flip flop, so I added another flip flop and put a towel under my swimsuit.
I realize my colors look totally fallish, I guess I should have picked the Fall pattern instead, lol, but summer is my favorite season.

The interior
As you have noticed, I do not have the handle on the bag, it is in transit, hopefully not being kept hostage by the custom police, I have not been contacted asking for ransom money yet.
Here's the winter pinny, but cupcakes screams Summer to me, since we have so many summer birthdays and we always make cupcakes.
I have a small giveaway today, I will not be doing cross stitch again, at least I don't think I will anytime soon, so I am giving away the extra "fabrics" I had bought, I have no idea what they are called, but they are 14 count. , one is the copper gold shots through it and the other has more of a cool gold shots through it, plus 2 extra DMC threads that I accidentally picked up even though I already owned them, white and 3821.

FHS Patterns and a Giveaway!

Today is Day 6 of the FHS Blog Tour, FHS stands for FABulous Home Sewn, a blog written by Fenna, she is amazing and blows my mind, she has a whole passel of kids, and she sews for them all AND herself, plus  she is in charge of the Sewing For Pregnancy Care Centers, a really nice organization that helps women who find themselves unexpectedly pregnant and to encourage them and show them that they are not alone--that there are people who would love to and are trying to help them and their babies!  If you would like to sew for the Pregnancy Care Center, just get in touch with Fenna!

So let's look at what I made!  I got to make both of her patterns, the Pirate's Treasure Wallet and the Perfect Petal Purse, both available through Craftsy at very reasonable prices.
A little bit of Sunshine and Rain brings the Flowers!
My son loves yellow and I picked out a few fabrics, I thought he might like and then had him decide, he looked at my selection for all of 1 second and chose the 2 fabrics he liked, lol, so not like his mama who takes days on deciding what fabrics to use.
For the exterior we used this nice bright yellow and for the interior a space themed fabric.

The wallet is a tri-fold style wallet with a small zipper compartment on the left, a vinyl pocket in the middle, and three credit card slots on the right. It also has a pocket for paper money and closes with a strip of velcro.
This is the first time I have sewn up a wallet and the pattern is easy to follow, in fact I liked it so much and it was pretty easy to do, I made a second one!

The second time around I decided to make a few changes, the first was to only put interfacing on on of the exterior pieces, you can notice the difference in the size right away, the wallet is still stable, I use Pellon TP971F Fusible Thermolam, it could have been a little too thick doubled on such a small item.  Also with the vinyl pocket I had difficulty folding it into the seam line so I cut the long side 1/2" smaller and sewed the smaller fabric strips at a 1/4" instead of the recommended 1/2" and this made it so the vinyl was out of the seam allowance, but the fabric was not.
 That zipper that you see at the top, was my son's idea, you see I don't give them paper bills, since the first Euro bill is the $5, so they get lots and lots of change, he wanted a bigger pocket for the change and he suggested making on at the top, well it worked.

The second wallet went super easy together and my daughter has picked out her fabrics, cause she wants a wallet too :-  but with pink Tula Pink fabric.
The Petal Purse, ADORE!
Loved making the petal purse, found the instructions easy to understand and I had no problems putting it together, I am going to make a ton of these, one for each dress I make for Kat, in fact I am already working on the second one, but it will take me a while to do it, since I am making it match her sunflower dress and I am doing a ton of french knots for the front of the Perfect Petal Purse.
 She wore it to school and the teacher's, parents and other girls all wanted one.  Now she is economical and fills her's with what is important, money.

I tried to get her to put other things in there, but nope she wanted her change in it.
The only "change" I made to this pattern was in how I sewed up the Petals, I cheated... I cut out the interfacing, I used Pellon SF101, in the petal shape, then I ironed it onto the back of a strip of fabric, put the 2 strips of fabric rights sides facing, sewed it down and cut the petals out with my handy wavy rotary cutter.
So fast and easy, okay if you want to add cute ricrac, like this lady did, then you can't cheat, but I love it when I can make things go faster, plus I am horrible at cutting with scissors.

Both of these patterns are so fast and easy to do, the hardest part for me is finding the zippers, I don't have that great of a choice here in my town.  I will be sewing these up as quick little presents, especially the wallet it is the perfect size for me to start using all of my "brick" sized fabrics, hey did you see that the Fat Quarter Shop now sells what they have termed the "Jolly Bar".

FHS Blog Tour! and Giveaway!

It's Me in September!

Hello, Hello, I have been madly stitching away this summer, so much so that it wasn't so Secretively and today my husband told me I needed to stop sewing for a while.  WHAT? NO WAY?  This is my creative outlet, so what have I been stitching this summer.
  1. I did some Embroidery Projects:
    Bird Bones Mini Quilt, and Printing a Stamp on Fabric.
  2. I participated in a lot of Swaps:
    Strawberry Swap, Need a Needlebook Swap, and the Big Stitch Swap
  3. I experimented in making clothes for my daughter:
    The Butterfly Challenge, Liberty Shorts, and Up-cycled 4th of July Skirt.
Today I want to show you my 3 projects that I did specifically for this blog hop, all 3 have some Gingham in them, because I like the stuff!

  1.  Embroidered Dish Towels, I stitched these towels while on vacation.
A little bit in the Ancient city of Philippi
Some on the beautiful beaches of Greece

Madame Samm herself got me hooked on embroidery.

 I was going to keep these beautiful Greek inspired dish towels for myself.....
I just got this yellow ribbon in a swap from Karri!
.....But I am so excited my Auntie from Washington State is coming to visit us this weekend, so they will be a gift to her, to remind her of the delicious food we plan on feeding her and my Uncle.
And of the Views we will show her.

We have our own Olive Tree, so yummy.
   2.  An Open Wide Feathered Gingham Pouch for a Swap
Sent this Noodlehead Open Wide Zippered Pouch with added Vera of Negliegent Style handle to my swap partner this Monday.  It is a secret swap, but she seemed real keen on this kind of bag and she loved the look of pieced feathers. One of her many favorite colors was red, so I added a dash of fun with Riley Blakes Large Red Gingham to the inside.
  3.  One skirt for my daughter became 2
one sided Circle Skirt
 Originally I wanted to do this Reversible Circle Skirt, but then I realized that the the April Showers Rain Drop fabric would be upside down, lucky for me I had only cut out the gingham part.  So Katerina got 2 dresses, her sweet Red Gingham Circle Skirt and her Umbrella Swirl Skirt.
