Le Challenge Blossom

It's been 2 months since I have posted anything on my blog, so sorry blog :)
I have been crafting, mostly swap items.
And it just so happens that as I was making my latest swap extra, I realized that this month's Le Challenge fit right in with what I was making.

BLOSSOM

I love making small needlebooks as swap extras, they are quick to put together and you can never have to many of them (or at least I can't, I have 4 just right here next to me as I type this)

Plus you can fill it up with a few little extras and this time my partner said she wanted some sewing extras, so I'm going to include some needles, pins, a needleminder and threads made here in Greece.

My other favorite thing to make for swaps is needleminders that match the fabric I used for the swap item, since I always try to use a person's favorite colors or designers, plus again you can never have too many needleminders, hehehe!

The front was inspired by the book "Alison Glass Applique" and yes this is all Alison Glass fabric and also some of the wool I purchased from Alison Glass, Weeks Dye Works Wool and matching thread.  Tracing the white lines of the moth with embroidery thread is an idea that I have wanted to play with since seeing some examples on IG (my favorite place to find inspiration and where you can find me easier as @mara.creates).

Oh wait, that's Star Trek and not Star Wars, Sorry don't want to offend any Trekies or Warsies (what are Star Wars fans called, Chewbaccas?)
I love, love Le Challenge, it is such a great way to get out and make something, like this Star Wars themed toy bag for my son.  It was on my sewing Christmas list, but of course I am getting really down to the last minute in sewing these gifts up, but with the help of Le Challenge, I have it done today, and you would think from the way I am sounding it took ages to do, actually it only took 5 minutes, seriously 5 minute, well plus another 5 to iron, so let's say 10 minutes.

I'm upcycling, isn't that fun, this tank shirt Nik has worn since he was 2, I have a ton of pictures of him in it, so I find it adorable that I get to re-use it as something he can stick the little parts of his soon to be New Christmas Gift.
I trimmed the bottom of the tank top to make it even and then sewed it together, I wrapped the star wars fabric around the tank and cut 1 inch longer on the bottom and on one side 1 inch bigger, then I sewed it right sides together at 1/2", turned it inside out and placed it over the tank top.  I turned down the top, 1/2" and sewed it down to the tank, easy peasy!
It will hang nicely on the end of his bed.

He requested a Castle from Santa, and we bought this huge set up for 20euros, of course I think it will all break within a day or two, but my husband says that is fine.  There are a lot of little parts, so this Star Wars bag will help minimize the amount of SPACE this toy will need.

Le Challenge - Geometrics

For  Le Challenge I made a Trapezomandilo (Τραπεζομανδιλο) or more simple and not in Greek a Table Cover (really I have totally forgotten the English name, it is time for me to go back to America).

I did the first part here and then when my husband asked if we were going to eat on it, I kind of freaked out and decided to arrange some Laminated fabric around it.

Glad I did, the first time I put it on the table the kids spilled milk, no use crying over spilled milk, right?  But I did yell, it was the end of the photo opp.

You can't really see the spilled milk, but mommy was not happy.

Here are some pictures that I got in before they decided to spill the milk.

The table topper is reversible and on the other side I have a Hexagon vs. Circle war going on.

I think I did a good job of using all of the geometrics, the center piece is rectangular the whole table topper is square, on one side is hourglass triangle blocks along with square blocks, quilted with a diamond shape, on the reverse is hexagons and circles. Ta Da, now wiping the milk off was easy, but wouldn't you figure that they also got it on the material, but I love having the material in the middle because then I can set hot pans on it and not worry about frying the laminated fabric.

Before the kids sat down, I was just setting the stage, should have known they couldn't resist cookies.
