Thank you
Madame Samm and
Debby Kratovil for another fun hop to be in! It all started last year when I made a block for the Traveling Pic Stitch blog hop, that block became a pillow for the
In Your Words Blog Hop. Shirley of Simple Sew saw my hexagon pillow and invited me to join the brand new flickr bee group "Get Your Hex On", my Queen bee month was March and I had the girls make up blocks with Daisy Janie organic fabric and vespa's from the organic Havana by Monaluna scoot fabric.
They did a fantastic job and I loved all of the blocks I received back.
|
3 of the blocks from the bee girls |
|
I made these to match |
|
I made a few corrections to these who knew I was so anal, color coordinated. |
|
3 more blocks from my bee girls, I called these the modernista's blocks |
|
my all time favorite block from flickr member MsSpy, |
I got inspired by the block above and decided to "frame" all of the blocks. The block above will get center attention as the show stopper on the back, I want the back to look like a front too :) I just got my sewing machines quilting foot on Friday and plan on taking a class through Craftsy so I can finish up my second ever quilt and make it all nice and pretty. Here is the Quilt top.

|
my husband drove up and took these 2 photos for me. |
I had bribed one quilt holder with a balloon,
but the other quilt holder got distracted on our walk when we came across a wild tortoise, we have them all over the place.
|
Pets on Quilts, anyone? |
That helper took off with the tortoise.
|
my little ironing board |
I hadn't realized how hard it would be to iron such a large project, now the quilting part really scares me, the quilt top came out at 42" x77" and that's not even very big, I don't know how people make queen and king sizes, amazing.
My other fun little hexie project lately has been making hexie wallets, not necessarily made out of hexagons but for carrying hexagons.
|
Kate Spain Fandango hexie wallet |
|
Sweetwater boo crew hexie wallet |
|
one side for square pieces of fabric |
|
one side for completed basted hexagons |
|
a safe felt place to keep a few needles |

wonderful job on all of your projects ... and lucky you had a balloon for bribery!!
I haven't taken a Craftsy course, so no help from me... Those hexie wallets are a great idea!
Yes I think next year you should enter pets on quilts!
I love your quilt. Can't wait to see it quilted. Love the hexie wallets too.
xo jan
Great projects - I love the fabrics used in the quilt - lovely colours.
Wonderful projects!
Sjeeeeee. You did loads. I liked them all, but I love your quilt. Amazing! I can understand, however, the fascination with wild turtles..... I would want to see that up close too! As for quilting a bigger quilt (hand quilting huge quilts)..... It is really easy. Start in the middle and work your way out. It takes as long as it takes. Have fun with it, the last stitch is always a bit sad..... You'll see!
lovely lovely pics, but im reading on a tablet and can't read the words - im seeing dark words on a dark background :-(
Thanks for sharing all of your lovely work. It is great to see what everyone is doing.
Gorgeous hexie quilt Mara - it looks amazing :-)
Wonderful projects. Don't be afraid of the quilt. If you can make the top, you can make the quilt.
totally love your quilt, with lots of white space, and the hexie variations
There's ONE project I can't wait to see finished!! Well done. You certainly made it a fun hop stop!!
Nice projects Mara!
Thanks for sharing your fun projects.
Your quilt is beautiful! I love how the tortoise matched it so well too lol.
What a marvelous, fresh, modern quilt. I just am captivated with it! Clever way to put it together. I haven't made a queen or king quilt in over 15 years because of the very reason you mention - way to huge. I'd rather buy one from the big box store (did I really say that?) Thanks for sharing your talent today.
You are so creative. Thanks for sharing

I love craftsy classes. I loved the quilting a sampler with Leah day, Ann Pederson quilting a large quilt on a small machine, Angela Walters quilting classes she has 3 of them now.Mickey Depree on hexies. I guess I am not a help because I love all the classes.
Your wallet is delightful! Thanks so much for sharing. I haven't taken a Craftsy class so I have no suggestions, but it's a great question - I'm interested in reading the recommendations in the other comments.
I love how wonderfully all those bee blocks came together - It is totally amazing to me.
I just love all your hexagon projects. You have done so many great things with hexies. Thanks for the giveaway.
I have not taken a class on Craftsy yet so I can't recommend any.
I love your ideas, the ironing board cover is sweet, would make a cute table topper too.
Great projects, thanks for sharing.
Love the hexie-combination quilt! And that color scheme is TOO CUTE!!
Love your hexie projects. All of your helpers are pretty great too!
very cool project and the turtle looks GREAT on it too
I love your get your hex on quilt Mara! and those super hexie wallets ! I've met Shirley in person btw, she is a trip ! LOL
A wallet to hold hexies - fun idea!
Oh I Love It!!!!!!! It turned out wonderfully!!!!!!
All the blocks in the group quilt are gorgeous and unique but my personal fav would be the one that looks like straight lines of fabric that then becomes squiggles of hexies. How's that for a silly description?
Great quilt blocks and great pics. Thanks for sharing and for the giveaway chance.
interesting colors in the quilt love your quilt project thanks
What a great color scheme! Your quilt is beautiful!
Love the quilt!!! SO much negative space for quilting:) I would take Angela Walters classes on quilting on Craftsy! Just love her!
Yum on the fabric. The quilt turned out great.
Fabric please for charity quilt. Everyone is doing. such a wonderful job and so inspirational! babscorbitt at gmail dot com
Such lovely projects...I especially like your quilt. Beautifully done.
I think the free classes are a good start. I did Amy Gibson's BOM for 2012 and it was really great. I am enrolled in so many now lol. That is how I got started quilting. Thanks
love how the quilt turned out. And, I'd be just like you--'ahem' color co-ordinated ;)
The fabric in your quilt makes me smile. What a beautiful quilt. Love the hexie wallet, too.
Lovely, just lovely!
I've never taken a craftsy class, but I bet it would be lots of fun and very interesting.
I can understand how you fee about quilting a large quilt.yesterday my friend showed us her quilt top that a longarmer had just quilted, and I don't know how anyone can make a queen size quilt on a sewing machine and keep it squared...much less quilting it! As for a hint on doing the actual quilting, I was told to mentally split it into fourths so that you never have more than one fourth to deal with at a time...sure hope you show us the finished results
Love your projects! What fun blocks and prints to make your quilt - it's a real treasure! And your quilt holders are such fun - love the tortoise - At first I thought it was part of the quilt - hmmm, I'll bet you could make a cute hexie tortoise! Then I saw your adorable sample pics - hey - I know that Hexagami flower!! Thanks for sharing the link to my tutorial. Great idea to share your past hexagon projects - they're all such fun too!
OU have risen to Queen in good standing..your projects are pretty amazing...absolutely stunning...your pics out of this world, your projects and great subject matter brought many smiles...Mara...you are a Queen
Beautiful! Loved your pictures and the hexies were awesome. I like the little hexie holder - it's a great idea. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us.

Loved your hexie flower!!
I have a friend who made a king size double wedding ring quilt for me. The lady at the local quilt shop told me it would take a day for me to press the top and backing. It sure did. I just took it in sections and pressed and pressed. I didn't even have to piece the backing. I've had it back from the longarmer for quite some time and I need to get that binding on - it's cut and not sewn together yet. Your quilt is amazing. I am in love with the fabric and the design. Your helpers are cuties, too. I never seem to be in the right place to have helpers when I need pictures. Thanks for participating and I can hardly wait to see more of your wonderful creations.
For ideas with your backing - take Elizabeth Hartman's free Craftsy class for making fantastic backs. I'm not sure of the name - if you have trouble finding it - let me know. She has great ideas and tells you how to piece to match, if needed.
Love your quilt and the wallets are so cute, thanks for a chance.

Great fabric, projects, photos! Wow!
Wonderful quilt top. I love the colours you chose, and the borders you put on the blocks. Cute helpers!
Love the scooter fabric! I call my daughter scooter! She would flip over it!
That fabric is too cute! Oh don't get me started on Craftsy ha ha. I bought so many classes I should own the website LOL. Every one I have taken has been great. Right now my favorite is "Thread Art" by Lola Jenkins. I am pretty new to quilting and could not believe that I actually learned and did very well at thread art! You have to check that one out. You did a great job on your quilt by the way!
Love all of your hexie projects. Your quilt is beautiful. too many choices not enough time or money when it comes to Craftsy. Thanks for the giveaway. vickise at gmail dot com

Love all of your projects, and hexie wallets are such a cute idea.. There are so many good classes at Craftsy, and I see Linda from Fig tree has a new class starting, I think she might be my next one. I just finished the Mystery quilt , it is hard to say it just depends on what you are interested in.
Great projects. Love the picture of the quilt holders, and the scenery is gorgeous.
Great projects! My entry to Pets on Quilts is a tortoise (#57)so I chuckled when I saw yours.

Wonderful hexie creations. The quilt top is going to be smashing when completed. Great work!
You hexie wallets are really cute! I would love to win one!
Beautiful quilt. The hexie wallet is quite nice also. Great job on your projects. Angela Walters has a new class at Crafty called Dot to Dot quilting that sounds good to me about machine quilting. Maybe you should take that to make you more at ease about quilting. I think I am going to take it.
I think the Get Your Hex On quilt came out really cute - you should post a final picture in the Flickr Group! Cute projects, as always!
Beautiful hexie projects, Mara! The quilt is going to be a knock-out - best of luck with your quilting.
You are a hexie Queen! :o)
Wonderful projects.
HI Mara! The Hexy book is so cute. Im going to take a craftsy photography class. No, really. The pictures I take of my projects always come out funny. Yours look great-no class needed. :)
Love your hexies. Thanks for the chance to win.
Well done, Mara on both the past and present hexie projects. I had to laugh about losing one of your helpers/holders to a tortoise. What fun it must be with your kiddos.
Mara, I love love love the quilt!!! I'm so honored to be "MsSpy"... I'm in the Hexie party I'm so excited!!!!
What a wonderful selection of hexie projects. It is not everyone who can get a tortoise to poise with their sewing projects. Almost as cute as the quilt holders.
Love your hexie projects. They are really cute.
That quilt is going to be a winner when you've finished it all. Your hexie wallets - how clever!
Love your quilt and hexie wallet. Thanks for the chance to win!

The first Craftsy class I took was Quilting Quickly and it really set me on my course. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for the giveaway!
Loads of lovely work! I have some hexi's in a bag I should really do something with. What happens in a blog hop. Sorry to sound thick but I have seen many blogs running them but none actually explaining how it works. Sounds like fun.
